All dates and info are subject to change, but here is the current plan for the 2020 Seekonk Girls Softball Season:
All Practices and Home Games are played in Seekonk at Cole Street Fields (Martin School)
Instructional Division (K-Grade 1) does not play "road games." The Junior Division (Grade 2) did not play road games last year, but depending on the number of teams we end up with, we will explore the possibility of playing one or two games at a neighboring town (possibly Darlington/Pawtucket and Rehoboth) so if we end up with 2 teams, they do not play against each other every single game of the season.
The Minor Division (Grade 3-5) and Major Division (Grade 6-8) are likely to play a few games in neighboring towns (possibly Darlington/Pawtucket and Rehoboth)
Official Game Schedule is all TBD depending on number of players that register, number of teams we end up with, and neighboring town's interest/availablity.
The practices usually start in beginning-to-mid April depending on the weather and when the town gives us the official go-ahead to use the fields.
The season is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 27.
SEASON / GAMES
Once the season begins, practices generally come to an end and from that point on, each team usually plays 2 games a week - one on Saturday mornings and one during the week at 6:00pm on either Tues, Weds, or Thursday. (We usually hold Mondays and Fridays for rain-out dates, just in case.) No games are scheduled on Sundays or on Memorial Day Weekend.
Each team usually plays a total of 12-14 games, including playoff games for the Minor and possibly Major Divisions.
The season usually ends the second week of June.
All players will need a fielding glove and cleats. The league supplies bats, balls, and helmets, but many players opt to purchase their own. It is recommended that Minor and Major Division players wear fielding masks, especially in the infield. There will be a special "Dick's Sporting Goods Day" where you can purchase items at a discount on a certain day with a special coupon. Details on this to follow.
All players will receive a team uniform t-shirt to be worn at all games. Stirrup-printed socks will also be provided. Going forward and due to multiple comments, we will not provide shorts this year as players almost always wear their own softball pants.
All coaches and assistant coaches are volunteers. If you would like to volunteer to be either a coach or assistant coach, please drop us a line at [email protected]
